"And now to entertain you, Castle High School presents the marching 'Band in Blue'". As the band marched onto the football field, the audience saw only a mass of 140 dressed in blue and white uniforms and carrying instruments. What they hadn't witnessed was the work that went into making each performance possible. Even before school began, band members could be found at the Treble Acres band camp August 5-11 preparing themselves for another season.

Besides performing at each home football game, the group displayed its talent in the Ohio River Festival Parade in September and at the Indiana Music Association auditions at Southridge High School October 13.

After the ensemble contest January 26, the time came for the band to begin practice for the spring musical, "The Music Man". Along with this, the three bands prepared for the Indiana School Music Contest here April 19. All three won first division ratings.

Several individuals received honors throughout the year. Cindy Freeman, junior, was selected as a member of the Evansville Youth Symphony, while senior Steve Rifkin was chosen to the All-State Orchestra for the second consecutive year. Two students, Keith Brakel, senior, and sophomore Melody Kuester, were chosen to take part in the European band tour in July. As the year came to an end, the muscians reflected on their activities. Junior Diane Courter expressed her thoughts in the following poem.

Someone help me understand,
Why I'm in this crazy band.
Note after note - what's the use?
It's something they call band abuse...
Band is a blast; once it's past.
Remember the fun; when the work is done.
