BAND BOOSTER CLUB ELECTS OFFICERS
At a meeting of the band parents of the Ohio Township Schools (Newburgh
and Chandler Grade Schools and Castle High School), Mr Thaine L. Helms, a
past president of Chandler's Band Booster Club, was elected president of a
newly formed Ohio Township Band Parents Association. Seventy-five parents
responded to the invitation of Mr. John Wittenbraker, Castle High Band Director,
and Mrs. Mildred Martin, Music Director of the grade schools, to attend the
organizational meeting Tuesday night at Castle High. Other officers elected
were Charles Hagenseiker, vice-president; Mrs E. Lett, secretary; and Mrs
Otis Bingermer, treaurer.
The combined High School and Junior High Bands, composed of 55 members,
presented a short concert for the parents and an instructive movie was shown.
Open house, with inspection of the new band room and practice rooms, followed
the meeting. In charge of the refreshments were Medames John Tumey, Oliver
Eiffler, Orvis McConnel, Thaine Helms, Leonard Carson, and E. Lett.
Executive officers met with Mr Wittenbraker Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Castle
High to make plans for the year's activities.

PRE-SEASON SHOW AT CASTLE HIGH
Castle High will have a pre-season show at the school building on Oct.
29 beginning at 7 o'clock. Some of the special features will be: inter-squad
games played by practice teams, with first teams competing against first teams
and second teams competing against second teams; the School Band will perform
on the stage and the Yell leaders will give performances. A parking crew
will be on hand to get some practice inparking cars and the ticket crew will
be selling tickets and concessions.

CASTLE BAND NOTES
The Finance Committee ot the Castle Band Booster Club met Thursday night
at the home of President Thaine Helms in Chandler. Several money-making plans
were discussed and will be presented to the membership at the regular meeting
to be held Monday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Castle High Cafeteria.
Those volunteers who will operate the concessions at the December 1st
ball game when Castle plays Chrisney are:Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Schuble and
Mr & Mrs. Don Kline, popcorn; Mr. & Mrs. Sylvester Kaiser and Mr
& Mrs. Harry Gebhart, soft drinks; Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Miller, Mrs. Elmer
Hinman and Mrs. Maurice Williams, hot dogs.
Those wishing to avail themselves to assist in the stand at the December
4th and 5th ball games may do so by contacting any of the above workers.

BAND NOTES
The Castle Band Booster Club will meet at Castle High Cafeteria Monday,
December 7, at 7:30 p.m. The insurance committee will have information on
group instrument insurance. The finance committee will report on their recent
meeting. For entertainment, Director John Wittenbraker will present the Little
German Band in its first public appearance. All band parents are urged to
attend the meeting.

DONKEY BASKETBALL
Donkey Basketball will be presented by the Castle High School Band Boosters
on Saturday, Jan. 28, in the Chandler Grade School gym. It will feature Godfrey's
Famous Donkeys. It is a hilarious program, and will provide fun and entertainment
for all.
Local teachers, parents, and businessmen will particpate. Half-time music
will be furnished by the Castle High School Band.
Reduction for tickets bought in advance. Adults $.75; Junior and Senior
High students $.50; Grade School students $.25; children under 6 years free
when accompanied by parents. Admission at the door: Adult $.90; Junior and
Senior High school students $.65; Grade School $.35

Newburgh Register 2/16/61 SOCIALS AND PERSONALS
Three students from Newburgh received Division I ratings in the district
solo and ensemble contest Saturday, Feb. 4, at Evansville College Department
of Music.
Division I winners in classes A, B, and C are eligible to enter the State
Music Contest at Butler University on Feb. 18. Classes A, B, and C are for
grades 7-12. Class D is for soloists in grades 7-9 and ensembles in grades
6-9.
The winners from Newburgh were:
Trombone Solo-John Jamerson, Class D
Clarinet solo-Cynthia Schuble, Class B; Larry Eifler, Class C.

INDIANA STATE SOLO CONTEST
Castle High School was well represented at the State Solo and Ensemble
Contest at Indianapolis las Saturday by three students who earned their way
by receiving first division honors recently at the district contest at Evansville
College. Sandra Briney, a senior voice student and member of the Castle Choir,
received first division rating in her second year of participation, received
the highest rating that has been awarded to a Castle student.
Two Castle Band students received division II ratings in the instrumental
classification. Sophomore Cynthia Schuble and eighth grader Larry Eifler,
both clarinets, received these ratings in participation. Three other Castle
students played the accompaniments for these soloists. they were Nancy Brink,
Karen Spaw, and Susan Nelson.

E.C. SCHOLARSHIPS MARCH 25
Auditions for music scholarships at Evansville college will be held at
2 p.m. on March 25 in the Music Building on the college campus.
High school seniors in the upper third of their class may try for scolarships
in all woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments, as well as organ,
piano, and voice.
The student must be recommended by his or her high school music teacher,
and must plan to complete a four-year course in music at Evansville College.
The scholarships are $187 per year toward tuition, and $180 is granted
for students in a major music area.
The audition material will consist of a solo or excerpt from a method book.
The material should be selected to show the ability of the performer, not
only technically, but also musically. Students in voice or orchestra should
provide their own accompanist if possible.
Application blanks may be obtained by writing the Admissions Office at
Evansville College.

CASTLE HIGH MUSIC DEPARTMENT
The Castle High School Music Department will present its Music Night program
on Friday evening, April 7 in the Castle gymnasium. Four groups will take
part in this concert which will feature about 180 Junior and Senior High School
students. A 100 voice mixed chorus and a 60 voice special chorus will present
choral arrangements of both religious and secular types. The special chorus
will be robed and will be wearing the new choral stoles which have been purchased
for this group. The choral program will be climaxed with a presentation
of the anthem "Alleluia! Sing Praise," which is a chorale from Cantata No.
142 by Johann Sebastian Bach and particularly fitting as an Easter setting.
Accompaniests for the choruses will be Dixie Hertzel and Karen Spaw.
Two instrumental groups will be featured after the intermission. First
will be a 31 piece Junior High Band which is made up of all seventh grade
students. Their program will consist of an overture, a folk dance, and several
other selections. The 57 piece High School Band will complete the program
with some intersting and what has been for them challenging music selections.
The band will present overatures, marches, and descriptive music which will
offer music from Spain, a telling musical view of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow,
and the popular patriotic march, American Patrol.
All of the musical groups are directed by Mr. John Wittenbraker and the
organizations have been in existence for only two years. Everyone is invited
to attend this program. Tickets will be on sale at the door on the night
of the performance and will be on sale in advance by the band and chorus students.
Price of admission will be $.50 for adults and $.35 for students. Proceeds
from this program will be used for a concert tour of our band and choir to
Jasper, Ind. on Wednesday, April 26.

ARAD McCUTCHAN TO SPEAK AT DAD'S NIGHT PROGRAM
The Newburgh PTA will meet Thursday night, April 20, 1961, at 7:30 p.m.
This is the final meeting of the year and there will be a special program
honoring the "Dads" of the school.
Reverend Donald Goben, pastor of Epworth methodist Church, newburgh Road,
will lead the devotions. Evansville College Purple Aces basketball coach,
Arad McCutchan will be the featured speaker. Mr. John Wittenbraker, music
director of Castle High, will bring the "Little German Band from Castle along
to entertain with a sauerkraut flavor. There will be a business meeting following
the program and refreshments will be served by several "Dads" of the community.
Mr Otis L. Bingermer is chairman of the event.

CASTLE HIGH MUSIC DEPARTMENT RECEIVES
DIVISION II RATING AT INDIANA FESTIVAL
On Saturday, April 15, 110 music students and three faculty chaperones
from Castle High School traveled to Vincennes, Indiana, for the 1961 IndianaSchool
Music Association Cometition Festival. Participating in the auditions which
were held in Adams Colliseum, Lincoln High School classrooms, and library,
were 2,700 young musicians which made up thirty-four bands, ninteen choruses,
and one orchestra.
The judges for band competition were:Dean Dowdy, director of music Madisonville
High School Madisonville,Ky.; Roy Boesser, band director Male High School,
Louisville, Ky.; Don Parlette, band director Muncie Central High School, Muncie,
Indiana; Harry Gee, Indiana State Teacher's College, Terre Haute, Indiana;
Don Marketto, band director Greencastle High School, Greencastle, Indiana;
Clifford Brugger band director, Elwood High School, Elwood, Indiana.
The competitors were classed according to the difficulty of the nusic selected
by the band and chorus directors. Class A was the most difficult.
Castle Jr./Sr. High School Band played "Mightier Than Circumstances", required
selection for Class BB competition, "Invergarill", and "Fantasy for Band."
The band received a division II rating which is excellent.
The Castle High School Concert Choir sang "I must Sing," required selection
for competition, "Listen Love," and "These Things Shall Be." The choir also
received a Division II rating.
This was the first time that a Castle High School musical organization
has attended this contest.

VARIETY SHOW AT CASTLE GYM
The annual Variety Show, sponsored by the Band Booster Club of Castle High,
will be Saturday night, April 22, at Castle School Gym beginning at 8 o'clock.
Fifteen different musical comical, and unusual numbers will be presented.
Plan now to attend and hear the Greman Band and the Beauty Shop Six of Castle;
at least two different groups from Fort Branch; a very unusual and amusing
act, "The Ball Walking Act;" also the Lemmon Brothers in a dance number.
hear the Castle Accordian players; a pantomime by Diana Smith; solo number
by Wilfred Espenlaub; Wilson Smith with his guitar; good singing by the Hamm
family; a comical skit with Larry and Dickie; also other musical and dance
numbers. An entertaining and exciting variety program has been planned.
Bring the children to see the comical clown. Homemade candy, cokes, and popcorn
will be sold.

TRI STATE YOUTH CONCERT
The Ohio Township School Corporation is taking all fifth and seventh grade
students to see the Tri-State Youth Concert. Thisspecial concert will be
held April 24, and is being presented by the Evansvill Philaharmonic Orchestra.
The students will be transported by school bus to the stadium on Monday
morning. Students will please bring $.15 to pay for the bus trip. In charge
of the students will be Mr. John Wittenbraker, Castle musical director, and
Mrs. Mildred Martin, music teacher at Newburgh and Chandler grade schools.

CASTLE AWARDS DAY, MAY 19TH
Valedictorian Alice Esche and Salutatorian Ted Helms will be the speakers
in the assembly program Friday, May 19, at 1:15. Other students of Castle
High School will be recognized and presented awards by departments of Castle
High School and civic organizations of Ohio Township. The public is invited
to attend.
The Baccalaureate Program will be held Sunday evening, May 21, at 8:00
in the Castle Gym. The Castle music department will furnish the music for
all programs.
The commencement program to round out the graduation activities at Castle
High School will be held in the Castle Gym at 8:00p.m., Tuesday, May 23. Dr.
James Morlock of Evansville College will give the commencement address.

CASTLE HIGH BAND TO PRESENT
CONCERT AT VANDERBURGH FAIR
The Castle High School Band will present a concert at the Vanderburgh County
Fair. The concert is to be a part of the evening program on Wednesday, August
2, at the Fair Grounds on North Highway 41. The invitation to play this program
was received from Mr Bishea, Vanderburgh Count Agricultural Agent, in May.
Mr Wittenbraker, Castle Band Director, wants to remind band members of
this event, and wants to point out that the rehearsals which are in preparation
for this event are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings, July 28 and
29, and Tuesday, August 1. The rehearsals will be held at the Castle High
School Band Room from 7 to 9 p.m. on each of these evenings.
