The journey back begins as we enter our first year of high school. Mr. Steele and Mrs. Voss as class sponsors helped us struggle through our first year. Class officers were: Alan Espenlaub, President; Connie Cotton, Vice-president; Paulette Graul, Secretary-Treasurer. Freshman initiation was the highlight of the year that everyone seemed to enjoy. In our first year of high school we saw Lynn Hagenseiker crowned Football Queen with Alice Hemenway and Paulette Graul as attendants. As the year rolled on our first class party was a "Christmas Party." Basketball season brought a Basketball Queen crowning and our two attendants were Lynn Hagenseiker and Paulette Graul. The year was closed by a swimming party at Pffalin's Lake.
The 1961-62 Sophomore class enjoyed Mr. Curry and Mrs. Hale as class sponsors. Class officers this year were: Jack Hempfling, President; David Vondersher, Vice-president; Paulette Graul, Secretary-Treasurer. The sophomore year, traditionally, brings the ordering of class jackets and class rings. The class jackets were ordered and received in October. Our class rings were to be unique because they were the first oval style ever ordered at Castle. We were proud to have Pat Hamm and Bob Carroll represent our class as Fall Festival Queen and King candidates. Other candidates of our class this year for various events were Paulette Graul, Football Queen crowning; Lynn Hagenseiker, Paulette Graul, and Barbara Refrow Basketball Queen crowning. Everyone enjoyed attending the class party, "Country Theme" dressed as Hillbillies.
Our busiest year, besides our Senior year, was our Junior year. Guiding us through these hectic times were Mrs. Kell, Mr. Wilson, Mr. Whitesides, and Mr. Gentry as class sponsors. Class officers were: Larry Eiffler, President; Paulette Graul, Vice-president; Tara Sue Lenn, Secretary; and Marilyn Grimm, Treasurer. The class enacted the Christmas play, "A Christmas Carol," from which proceeds went to toys for tots. Fall Festival King and Queen this year Elizabeth Staples, and Steve Son were members of our class. This also was the year that each member of the Junior class contributes to putting on the prom for the Senior class. The magazine sales and Fall Festival profits gave the biggest helping hand toward this project. The prom which was held at the Rural Youth Center in Evansville turned out to be quite a festive and lavish occasion. The theme was "Moonlight and Roses." After-prom activities were at Arc Lanes. Afterward weary participants attended a breakfast at school. This is the most enjoyable event of the year.
This brings us back to the 1964-65 Senior class. We would very much like to extend our appreciation to Mrs. Kell, Mr. Erwin, Mr. Caswell and Mr Hoskins for their magnificent effort they put out as Senior class sponsors. Four members of our class that deserve a great deal of credit are Larry Eiffler, President; Alan Espenlaub, Vice-president; Paulette Graul, Secretary; Marilyn Grimm, Treasurer. The first episode of our senior year began with each member of the class having their pictures taken at Beverly Studios. There were several girls who received various honors this year. Lynn Hagenseiker was crowned the 1964-65 Football Queen with Patty Bender and Donna Littrell as attendants while Patty Bender was crowned Basketball Queen with with Donna Littrell and Marilyn Grimm as attendants. Lana Phillips and Jack Lauderdale were fall festival Queen and King candidates. As Christmas neared the class began working on Toys for Tots and preparing for the Senior play, "Our Town" directed by Mrs. Ewing. The last commemorative occassions began with Baccalaureate on May 23, the class picnic May 26, and Senior night on May 27. Commencment on May 28 closed the door of our high school career at Castle but opens the door to future success.
